The Yurinkan was donated to Kiryu City by Yano Enterprises in August, 1994. The Yurinkan is a collection of warehouses dating from the Meiji, Taisho and Showa Periods. It has become a popular symbol of the architecture characteristic of Kiryu's nostalgic past.
Among the buildings there is a brick warehouse, salt warehouse, sake (Japanese "rice wine") warehouse, miso and soy sauce warehouse, beer warehouse, western alcohol warehouse and grain warehouse. The warehouses encompass an area over 22,000 square meters.
Since 1990, the buildings have been rented out from the Yurinkan Management Committee to promote "local color" projects. These programs have been very successful. The warehouses are used for art exhibitions, music concerts and performances, lectures and symposiums as well as parties and meetings.
In the spring and fall each year, outdoor/indoor festivals are held at the Yurinkan warehouses. These lively events attract many visitors.
