Nana Kusa Gayu
On the 7th day of the New Year, it is a Japanese custom to eat a gruel made of rice with seven herbs as a protection for good health in the year to come. The seven herbs are: seri or water dropwort; nazuna or shepherd's purse; gogyo or cudweed; hakobera or chickweed; hotokenoza or nipplewort; suzuna or turnip; and suzushiro or daikon. |
