Traversing the Northern Mountain Range
Trekking from Nemoto Mountain through
Zama Pass to
Narukami Mountain
This trail is for advanced level hikers with both experience and knowledge in mountaineering. The trails lead from Nemoto Mountain over Sankyo Mountain, Zanba Mountain, and down through Zama Pass to Narukami Mountain. There are many rocky areas and it is a very undulating and steep trail requiring careful footwork.
There are not many observation lookouts along the way, however, from the peaks of Sankyo Mountain and the rock outcropping on the north face of Zanba Mountain just below the peak are good views of Akagi Mountain, Kesamaru Mountain, Sukai Mountain and the Nikko Mountain Range.
Proceeding straight through Zama Pass, there are many mountain azaleas and thickets. The trail rises and falls as it approaches Narukami Mountain. Taking the trail down the mountain from Zama Pass, you arrive at Godo Station on the Watarase Railroad in Azuma Village. It is about a 4.5 km hike and takes about an hour and a half. From Zama Pass toward Umeda, the trail is about 9.9 km and ends at Umeda Minami Elementary School in Umeda 2 chome. It takes experienced hikers about 3 hours and 15 minutes.
